Description
Woman before a Mirror by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec draws the viewer into an intimate room, where a standing figure and her reflection meet across a tall looking glass. Warm reddish walls, loose fabric and dark stockings create a richly varied setting around the pale figure.
The mirror opens a second view of the sitter without breaking the enclosed atmosphere. In Woman before a Mirror, visible strokes and muted colors give the scene an immediacy that balances the figure’s sculptural presence with the fleeting quality of a private moment.
