Description
Studies of a Horse in Profile by Eugène Delacroix explores the animal’s shape through overlapping graphite outlines. The main horse faces right, with a strong neck, carefully observed head and long contours that trace the movement of its body; smaller passages below continue the study.
Made between 1823 and 1830, the drawing shows the searching energy of a working sheet. Repeated lines keep the process of observation visible, giving the horse a sense of life beyond a single fixed pose.
