Description
The Bullfight by Francisco de Goya captures an acrobat poised on a table as a bull charges toward him. His raised arms and backward-leaning body answer the animal’s lowered head, while nearby figures watch or move away.
The table creates an unexpected stage within the arena. Dense shading along the barrier contrasts with the open ground, bringing the dramatic meeting of man, animal and furniture into sharp focus. The visible number 19 identifies the plate shown here.
