Description

The Companions of Rinaldo brings two armored warriors face to face with a coiling dragon in a rocky landscape. Nicolas Poussin sets their bright blue and orange garments against silver armor, warm stone and a turbulent sky.

The raised golden wand and curved sword direct attention toward the creature, while the shield and red-plumed helmet give the foreground figure a commanding presence. A woman and boat appear behind the warriors at left, extending the story beyond the immediate encounter.
