Description

About The Japanese Footbridge

Painted in 1899, Claude Monet’s The Japanese Footbridge depicts the water garden at his home in Giverny. The blue-green bridge arches over a pond filled with water lilies and reflections, surrounded by dense foliage. Monet returned to this viewpoint in a series of paintings, exploring the interplay of light, color and water. The original painting belongs to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
