Description
The Trinity shows God the Father supporting the body of Christ amid angels, with a dove hovering above. Angels hold instruments associated with the Passion, while winged heads and clouds fill the lower part of the composition. The central body rests diagonally across the Father’s figure, giving the heavenly assembly an immediate sense of weight and tenderness.
This woodcut after Albrecht Dürer’s Trinity design combines a clear central relationship with a densely populated supernatural setting. The surrounding wings and billowing drapery create movement, while the supported body remains the emotional focus. Fine lines distinguish skin, cloth and feathers, making the symbolic subject tangible. The image’s power comes from bringing an immense theological theme into the recognizable act of holding someone with care.
