Description
Umberto Boccioni’s Three Women gathers three figures into a softly illuminated interior. An older woman sits at the left, a younger figure stands near the center, and another woman occupies the right. Threads of blue, green, violet, and pale gold move through their clothing, linking the figures through the same changing light.
Created in 1909–1910, the painting depicts Boccioni’s mother, sister, and companion. Its divided brushwork gives an apparently still group a vibrant surface. The contrast between shadow and illumination brings the women’s individual presences together, making the family scene feel intimate and quietly alive.
