Description
Trophy with Two Vases and a Cuirass gathers ornamental vessels and armor into a carefully arranged drawing after Polidoro da Caravaggio. Two tall, darkly worked vases flank the central cuirass, whose helmet and decorated lower sections create a compact vertical focus. Pen and black ink establish the contours, while reddish-brown wash gives the objects weight and separates their surfaces from the pale ground.
The arrangement treats these forms as a decorative ensemble rather than the equipment of a particular warrior. The eye moves from one vessel to the other through the armor between them, noticing how different curves and details contribute to the whole. Dated broadly between 1600 and 1800, the sheet preserves the continued use of Polidoro’s ornamental imagery. Its interest lies in the meeting of martial associations, vessel design and the rhythmic organization of a drawn trophy.
