Description

In Dancers in Ukrainian Dress, Degas brings three dancers together in a sweep of raised arms, full skirts and red boots. Cool blue blouses contrast with yellow, red and deep green, giving the linked figures a powerful rhythm.

Previously titled Russian Dancers, Dancers in Ukrainian Dress captures the energy of movement through layered strokes of pastel and charcoal. The dancers nearly fill the image, making color and gesture feel inseparable. The work is by Edgar Degas.
