Description
Avenue to Schloss Kammer by Gustav Klimt draws the eye along a quiet path beneath a dense canopy of trees. Painted in 1912, the landscape sets the pale yellow building in the distance against a shimmering network of blue, green and violet branches. The trunks lean inward, turning the avenue into an enclosed, almost dreamlike passage.
Klimt builds the scene from countless touches of color, allowing foliage, bark and light to become a richly woven surface. The small opening at the end of the path gives the composition depth, while the nearly square format strengthens its calm, immersive character. Nature and ornament meet in a landscape that rewards both a distant view and close attention.
