Description

In Christ Carrying the Cross, Christ raises his eyes while holding the cross with long, delicate hands. A crown of thorns rests above his face, and the deep pink robe contrasts with a blue-green cloak.

El Greco compresses the scene around the head, hands and timber. The upward gaze and luminous color shift attention from physical burden toward inward devotion.
