Description
Dancers, Pink and Green by Edgar Degas draws a group of performers into a richly colored setting. Green skirts overlap across the lower composition, while pink bodices and warm flesh tones emerge against curtains streaked with gold, rust, and deep green. The dancers adjust their costumes and hair in separate, absorbed gestures.
A strong vertical partition divides the group, partly hiding the figure at the right and giving the scene a sense of depth. Softly blended color and visible strokes keep the forms active without sharply separating them. The result is an intimate view of preparation, with the brilliant costumes carrying much of the mood.
