Description
Divers Trophées presents an eagle with outspread wings above a richly ornamented helmet. Fantastic creatures flank the central armor, while a smaller helmet and decorated shields crowd the surrounding space. Light catches the curling edges and sculpted faces, making the engraved forms feel both solid and extravagantly imaginative.
Created in 1651 by René Lochon, the engraving follows Charles Errard’s drawings after Polidoro da Caravaggio’s decorations for Palazzo Milesi in Rome. Its layered arrangement transforms a collection of military equipment into a rhythmic display of animal forms, gleaming surfaces, and intricate line.
