Description
The Supper at Emmaus, from Engraved copies of The Little Passion after Albrecht Dürer, finds revelation in a shared meal. Christ sits at the center with bread in his hands, while the figures around him lean inward in attention and surprise. A great fan of light fills the arch behind his head, turning the modest table into the visual heart of the scene.
The engraved detail makes the setting invitingly concrete: a cup, dishes, folded cloth and sturdy wooden furniture surround the gathering. Curved contours in the clothing contrast with the straight edges of the table and benches. These ordinary objects lend intimacy to a moment whose significance is carried by faces, hands and the act of breaking bread.
