Description
Claude Monet’s Saint Lazare Station, Arrival of a Train turns a busy railway scene into a study of steam and light. A locomotive approaches through pale clouds, while tracks and dark figures lead into the station. Tall city buildings rise beyond the shifting haze.
Monet painted the Saint-Lazare station in 1877, finding an atmospheric subject within modern Paris. Here, solid machinery and architecture are partly veiled by smoke. Loose, light-colored strokes make the air feel active, contrasting with the firm diagonals of the rails beneath it.
