Description
Saint Peter reaches toward a man seated on the ground at the entrance to the Temple, while Saint John stands just behind him. The group gathers near a large column, and a small bowl rests beside the seated figure. Their gestures bring attention to a meeting of unequal positions: the standing apostles and the man who looks upward toward them.
Albrecht Dürer’s 1513 engraving gives the miracle a closely observed human setting. Strong shadows shape the architectural space, while the folds of the apostles’ robes contrast with the seated man’s exposed legs. The outstretched hand becomes the point where physical need and spiritual response meet, allowing a sacred episode to unfold as an intimate exchange at a public doorway.
