Description
Saint Sebastian stands tied to a tree with his arms secured above his head and arrows piercing his body. The narrow composition brings the trunk, rope and exposed figure into close alignment, while only a small strip of ground remains below. His face turns downward, giving the scene an inward, concentrated character.
This reversed engraving after Albrecht Dürer’s design makes the saint’s endurance visible through the contrast between tension and stillness. The raised arms stretch against their restraint, while the lower body remains firmly grounded. Fine lines model muscle, hair and rough bark without requiring a broad narrative setting. The image’s force comes from that concentrated encounter between a vulnerable person and the physical means of his suffering, allowing posture to carry the emotional story.
