Description
The Adoration of the Shepherds centers on the infant’s pale resting place, surrounded by figures whose bowed heads and outstretched hands form a circle of attention. Above them, angels sweep across a dark sky in flashes of red, yellow and white.
The existing El Greco attribution accompanies a composition of elongated bodies, restless folds and concentrated light. Earthy shadows give depth to the lower scene, while the open space between the figures and angels draws the eye steadily upward.
