Description
The Arts: Poetry by Alphonse Mucha gives creative inspiration a dreamlike human form. Designed in 1898 for his decorative Arts series, the panel surrounds a thoughtful figure with flowing auburn hair, pale drapery and a warm circular backdrop. A leafy wreath and softly curving lines create an atmosphere of reflection.
The figure’s upward gaze and expressive hands suggest a moment in which thought begins to take shape. Mucha balances the restrained tones of the gown with the richer color of the hair and background, drawing movement through the tall composition. Ornament and gesture work together to turn an abstract art into an intimate, lyrical scene.
