Description
Woman Drying Her Foot by Edgar Degas brings a bent figure close to the picture plane. Seated on a pale cloth, the woman reaches toward a lifted foot, her red hair falling forward and her other hand braced beside her.
Soft blues, warm peach, and muted yellow surround the figure, with a washstand and hanging towel suggested at the left. The long reach of the arm and the curve of the back organize the composition into a continuous movement. Woman Drying Her Foot turns a familiar daily action into an absorbing study of balance and form.
