Description

In Dancer, Degas catches a dancer in a low, oblique pose, her pale skirt spreading around her as an arm extends across the image. The surrounding strokes of green emphasize the body’s direction and balance.

The figure seems to occupy a moment between movements. Broken marks, soft highlights and the airy shape of the skirt make the physical effort of the pose feel immediate. The work is by Edgar Degas.
