Description
Frieze Fragment preserves a broad, brown-toned procession of classical figures. Nude and draped men move across the panel, with three prominent figures toward the left and center extending their arms among the surrounding company. Darker groups gather at the right, setting a contrast between the clearer foreground bodies and the denser passages behind them. The movement continues across the wide field rather than settling on a single isolated figure.
Painted around 1520–35 in oil on canvas, the work is attributed to a follower of Polidoro da Caravaggio. That relationship identifies the artistic example behind it without claiming Polidoro’s own hand. Other surviving portions of the frieze help establish its place within a dispersed ensemble. As an independent fragment, it retains the interplay between figurative movement and decorative organization that gave the larger work its continuity.
