Description
Joseph’s Coat Brought to Jacob is an etching by Rembrandt van Rijn, dated about 1633. In the biblical subject, news of Joseph reaches his father Jacob. Rembrandt builds the scene with dense, dark etched lines around the figures and a lighter opening beyond them, giving the moment a strong contrast of light and shadow.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art identifies this particular impression of Joseph’s Coat Brought to Jacob as the second of two states. The paper’s age tone and scattered marks remain visible around the printed image; they do not obscure its composition.
